Comments:Thank you for this history. Born and bred in KC, these first two stations especially KCJC meant a great deal to me. They turned me on to Frank Zappa, and Blues music which later on I kind of made of living at. I remember DJ's Bill Sites or Sikes and of course the legendary Little Willy. What a shame that these stations did not last. KKFI kind captures a little of that magic but of course times change and these stations were certainly products of that brief stint of hippiedom in our little cowtown. But hey, nothin wrong with a little bittersweet nostalgia from time to time. What ever happened to some of those DJ's. I'd just love to say thanks. Mark DuFresne

Comments:Man, this was a great site to find. I too grew up on KAAY and the Underground Radio of Mr. Clyde Clifford...between 1969-1972, when the show went off the air...during the summers my best friends and I would "camp out" in my parents travel trailer parked in the back of our property. With minimal lighting and a radio with not only AM, but FM and all those other bands..some big old radio of my dads...the four of us buddies...all between the ages of 9-12 would hang out and listen to the mysterious radio show and the cool music...unheard of on the AM....and we had NO FM stations at all that could penetrate the Ozark foothills of my hometown....it was so cool...looking at stashes of Playboy we had swiped from somebodies dad...jammin...playing cards.....we recorded a lot on a small panasonic cassette player...random bits of pieces of audio of us in the background while the tunes played...i still have a couple somewhere...anyway, it definitely influenced my life and I tune in as often as I c

I'd fall asleep and sometimes wake up and listen to Beaker Theater. I also listened to KWTO AM out of Springfield. At 8 or 9 o'clock they switched from their country music programing to rock and they signed off at mid night with Hendrix's Star Spangled Banner. Beaker Street was very influential in my musical interests. First heard Alice Cooper, REO Speedwagon and numerous others I can not recall. I am now 51 yrs. old.

Lost lots of sleep listening until 2 AM, as I recall, and then Beaker Theater afterwards. I remember The Little Barn as a sponsor of Beaker Street. Thanks for exposing all of us to Zappa, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Everything is Everything, Deep Water Reunion, King Crimson, Canned Heat, Grand Funk Railroad and all the rest. My tastes in music have grown to include Classical, but I'll always love the music of my teens and twenties, and Clyde Clifford was a huge part of that. Comments:Beaker Street, Hopefully Clyde will read this! On spring break of 1970, my senior year in high school, 5 of my best friends and I went on a 10 day fishing trip from Des Moines to Bull Schoals lake in Arkansas. We were a, not so famous, garage band but had alot of fun anyway. On one of those 10 days, 4 of the 6 of us drove south from Bull Schoals to Little Rock to meet Clyde. KAAY was voted the #1 listened too radio station at our school, Roosevelt High in Des Moines, Iowa so we wanted to meet "The Main Man" of Beaker Street. We went to the radio station downtown that afternoon and was told that Clyde was not there. He does his show at the transmitter which we finally found about 10:00 that night way out in the middle of nowhere. To this day, I still remember looking upward at the broadcast tower that night and it was illuminated, just like in the movie "American Graphitti". We were there from 11PM until 2AM. Clyde was gracious enough to dedicate many songs from us to our buddies

I have a good memory of the years and events, but could not remember specific dates. Unfortunately, I don't have ticket stubs or other documentation since a flood took them. I was at the Moody Blues at Memorial Hall around the same time as the concert you have listed. It was fabulous! Did they do two concerts at that time? I have not looked online for their concert history yet. Thanks!! Brian

Comments:I was looking for an event in Kansas City in the 70's where Jessi Colter was the opening act for Waylon Jennings that was closed out by Dr. Hook. It looks like 12/4/1977 is the date although there was no mention of Dr. Hook. Jessi Colter sang for a long time. I'm Not Lisa is the only song I can remember she did that was worth listening to. Waylon made it on stage to sing a part of a song or two and then retired due to a sore throat (we figured he was stoned). Dr. Hook came on about an hour later and they were all stoned. Everytime they'd sing a song (they were mooning the audience) a thousand people would leave. After a shortened set the place was empty.

I've always thought there was something historic about that concert, and that recollections and photos should be collected and preserved for it. I love the extensive KC concert list here, and wish there was a link that would allow us to read and post our recollections for each concert. Thanks for this site! Comments:I have a ticket stub from an Emerson, Lake and Palmer concert I attended at Kemper Arena sometime in the late 70's. Their website claims they played an Arrowhead concert on Thursday Aug 18, 1977. Unfortunately, my ticket stub is torn in half and the only information I can gleem from it, is that this concert I attended was Tuesday night at 8:00 pm and that it was at Kemper arena and the cost was $7.50 . Do you have any record of this Kemper concert, as your list only shows ELP at Municipal Auditorium in Aug of 1972. I attended hundreds of concerts in Kansas City in the 70's and I kept all of my ticket stubs. I have several stubs from concerts that are not on your list. If you are interested, I can give you those dates so you can update your list. Love this website!!
